Our History
Hollywood Art Brothers has been making films since the late 1960's. The name Hollywood Art Brothers was born out of the black films of the '70s. Unlike the black films today, the black films of the '70s had many different genres. During the 1970's Hollywood Art Brothers produced a number of western, horror, comedy, action adventure and science fiction film all on a low budget. Ironically, so did many of the major studio films of the '70s.

Between 1975 and 1982, Hollywood Art Brothers owned, managed and operated a community-based movie theatre. It was called the National Theatre. The theatre had sneak previews, cartoons, coming attractions, double features, intermissions, late shows, movie posters, free popcorn, and trailers of Rap Magazine before the main feature. Rap Magazine was the official publication of Hollywood Art Brothers in the '70's. The first issue was published in 1976. The publication even had a film critic. Hollywood Art Brothers at the time was composed of 12 filmmakers, all of whom were teenagers. Each filmmaker's production company had it's own marketing plan, budget, narratives, actors, special effects, sound effects, music score, graphic titles and much more.

Hollywood Art Brothers has appeared on a number of New York City radio and cable television broadcasts. Hollywood Art Brothers held their first reunion in 1989 with the original members. Angelo Bishop joined the group in 1978 and starred in "Death Comes to a City" (1981). He played a paramount role with the company during one of its major transitions, the company itself almost closed! However, with the support of Angelo Bishop, we produced one of our best films, "Crackdown" (1988), on which Angelo Bishop worked as a stunt coordinator and line producer. The film marked the end of an era for Hollywood Art Brothers. It would be our last action adventure film. Angelo Bishop took a decade-long hiatus. Now, he is back with us. It is going to be interesting to see what Hollywood Art Brothers does next!

In 1990, we started producing films/videos with dramatic themes. "Changing Times" (1990) - a Tony Carpenter Film and "Living Behind Walls" (1991) - a Ron Carpenter Film which featured Frankie Crocker (WBLS), Sai Freeman, Jerard Washington (one of the original Hollywood Art Brothers who appeared in "Crackdown" and "Just Another Girl on the IRT"), and Raheem, a superstar from the legendary Hip Hop group "Grand Master Flash." Ron and Tony Carpenter have moved the Hollywood Art Brothers' vision to new levels. The early vision of their father Franklin Carpenter has come a long way since WWII, when Sergeant Franklin Carpenter began a Negro Theatre Ensemble for his troops. Ron and Tony have produced one film per year since 1968 to the present.

Our Objective
We are a New York City-based independent Film/Video production company. Over the years, we have grown and expanded. Today, we have expanded our vision to create films that depict non-traditional images of African Americans. Our films today consist of documentaries, educational videos and feature films with a Christian theme.

Hollywood Art Brothers Today
Today, Hollywood Art Brothers is providing Film/Video workshops in New York City. We also offer selected additional communications workshops online. We have three new documentaries in production: "Quiet Afternoons" a documentary of three well known contemporary African American artists. Plus, we're producing a documentary entitled "Harlem 2000 & Beyond" - which documents Harlem at this point in history, and we're producing a documentary entitled "The Hollywood Art Brothers Experience" which, gives a comprehensive overview of the company. Our next feature film will be a Christian themed film.
